Second in County Hockey Final

Highnam's hockey team qualified for the County Hockey Final which was played at Cheltenham College on Wednesday 23rd March. Twenty of the best teams had earned the right to be in the final with over 250 teams taking part in the Gloucestershire event.

The Highnam team - Alice, Hannah, Amber, Caleb, Jasper and Taran - was looking forward to the challenge.

After winning all their group matches Highnam played: Great Rissington, Glenfall, Callowell and Meadowside. The team played very well and won 3 and drew 1 of the matches which meant they topped their group and proceeded through to the semi-finals.

In the semi-final the team played St. Briavels and won a close game, 2-1, to reach the County final! In the final the team played Blue Coat School from Wotton-Under-Edge. The team played well but unfortunately lost 4-1 but achieved the silver medal in recognition of being the finalists in the County Finals.

A great effort from the team today and a big thank you to Miss Thomas for running the after school hockey club and to Mrs Townsend for supporting the team on the day.

The team were presented with their silver medals by Chloe Rogers a Great Britain hockey player who represented GB in the London 2012 Olympics and won a bronze medal.
