Unit Two land use walk around the village

Straight after lunchtime, Unit Two went on a walk to study how land was used in the village of Highnam. Firstly, we walked up Wetherleigh Drive to the recreation ground and passed the allotments to Monkeyback Hill. Carefully, we all climbed over the stile and looked across the stunning countryside. We could see some farms, the hospital tower, Maisemore church, the A417 and GCHQ.

Next we walked to another stile and walked across an arable field towards Lassington Tower. After quietly passing through a garden we approached the Smiths’ farm and Lassington Tower. We split into classes, Mrs House’s class explored the farm, and how land was used, with Mrs Smith and Mr Dean’s class carried out a quiz all about Lassington church and the graveyard. After 15 minutes the classes swapped over. Kindly, Mrs Smith had prepared some homemade cakes, biscuits and a nice, cool drink for us.

Slowly, we started to walk back towards school along Lassington lane. Once in the village, we passed the Post Office and walked through Maidenhall, where we looked at the houses which had been built before World War II in the 1930s.

Finally, we all walked back to school, we were exhausted but had enjoyed our trip around the village.
