Swimming Gala success at Newent

On Friday the rearranged swimming gala took place at Newent School. A large team of 22 swimmers represented Highnam Academy in various races. During the individual races Dan got the team off to a great start with a 1st place in the Yr 5 Frontcrawl, Joseph, in Year 6, gained a silver medal in his Frontcrawl and Charlotte swam superbly to gain 1st place in the Yr 5 Breaststroke. Congratualtions to Hannah D who gained two silver medals for the Yr 5 Backstroke and the Yr 5 Butterfly. Well done also to Oscar for gaining a bronze medal in the Yr 6 Breaststroke and Dan who picked up another silver medal for 2nd place in the Yr 5 Butterfly.

Next it was time for the relays. Well done to Sian, Emily, Hannah and Chloe for 2nd place in the Yr 5 Girl's Medley race. The Yr 6 Girls Ellie, Sophie, Grace and Sarah gained 3rd place in the 4 x 30m Girls Medley race and the Year 6 Boys Leon, Oscar, Joe and Christopher achieved 2nd place in their medley race. The Yr 5 girls did well in their next race with Tia, Emily, Charlotte and Ella gaining a silver medal. Congratulations to the Yr 6 Girls and Boys Frontcrawl relay team which both finished in 3rd place in their respective races and to the Canon relay team who also secured a bronze medal.
