Supporting the Foodbank

Today Year 6 pupils lived out our new Value of Life - Service by working at the Gloucester Foodbank. The organisation supports people in need with 3 days emergency food parcels. We found out a lot of information about the Foodbank charity, for example, the Gloucester Foodbank is the 2nd oldest Foodbank in the country after Salisbury. There are four main jobs in the Foodbank ... administration, picking the food parcels, befriending the clients and warehouse staff.

How we helped

To start with the children sorted a variety of food items into the correct boxes and we also weighed the food which Highnam pupils had donated. We added all the food donated by Highnam parents and pupils today and it came to 32.3kg and some pupils donated their pocket money too. After that we focused on baked beans and soup. Lots of crates were brought up from the warehouse and were sorted by date and year. Each group had a tour of the room where the food parcels are picked.

We had a very worthwhile visit and were pleased to have served the city of Gloucester in this way. Thank you to the parents that helped drive and sort with us and to the Foodbank for letting us support their work.
