Medal Success at Newent Swimming Gala

On Wednesday 30th March six swimmers took part in the individual races at the Newent Swimming Gala. These children had progressed through the heats. First up for Highnam was Joseph; he finished his butterfly race in 3rd place and was given a bronze medal. Next up was Julia in the Year 6 girls back stroke race. In a close race Julia finished 1st. Next to swim was Tom; he finished 3rd in his back stroke race. Next to swim was Oscar in the Year Five breast stroke and he swam well to finish in 1st place. Sophie, in the Year 5 backstroke and Leon in the Year 5 backstroke both finished in 3rd place.

Following the individual races, four boys represented Highnam in the Year 5 Medly relay. The team made up of Christopher, Joseph, Leon and Oscar finished in 1st place. Christopher, Joseph and Oscar were joined by Dan J for the Year 5 freestyle relay. Once again they managed 1st place. There were two races left. The Year 6 boys' team (Ryan, Sam, Tom and Jack) finished in a respectable 3rd place. The final race was the mat relay and the team of Grace, Julia, Tom and Christopher also finished in 3rd place.

The team performed extremely well and, once again, were a credit to the school.
