We always like to hear about what Highnam pupils have been up to. Here are some pupils who have been in contact with the school to update us on their careers...
The Wells Family
All five of my children attended Highnam school and they have happy memories of their time there.
My eldest daughter, Lauren, started in 1989. She trained to be a nurse at The university of the West of England and is now a sister on the renal ward at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. She nurses patients with very complex medical problems but loves it. She had always wanted to be a nurse and worked as a Health Care Assistant before she started training which helped her a great deal.
Two years later Hannah joined the school. She also went to the University of the West of England and gained a degree in English. She now works for UCAS in Cheltenham and is part of the event management team organising information and training events for teachers,students and universities throughout the UK.
Richard started in 1993. He has trained as an electrician with Clarkson Evans in Staverton after gaining an apprenticeship. It has been amazing for him and he has done well. He has just been promoted to a quality manager which involves maintaining standards and he is involved with training staff and trainees.
Elliot went to Glasgow University and studied Medicine. That had been his dream since he was about 8 years old. After 5 years at university he qualified as a doctor a year ago and is working at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary as a Foundation Year doctor. He is enjoying it and is starting his second foundation year in August. His ambition has always been to be a surgeon and that is still the path that he is aiming to take.
Finally ,Tyler is at Keele University studying Neuroscience. He has just finished his second year and it has gone quickly! Keele wasn't his first choice but he got the place through clearing. It has been amazing and I am certain that it has turned out better than his first choice would have
been. He is enjoying it and settled in really well from the start. Tyler is very interested in research especially of the causes and treatment of dementia. He is intending to go on to do his MSc.
I hope this is all helpful in inspiring all your pupils at school. It isn't always an easy journey but I think when you have had a good start in education, in a happy and supported environment ,as you have at Highnam School, then it sets you up for lifelong learning and to be well adjusted adults!

The Greenoughs
John Greenough aged 19, currently studying medicine at Cambridge university , also vice chair of the University College football team and very keen rower, rows for Downing College M1/M2 men's crews.
Jon will begin training with the Cambridge University men's Blue Boat development squad in September.
Ellen Greenough currently taking A levels and has a place to do a BEd and become a primary school teacher at University of the west of England.
Rebecca/Alex still at secondary school playing lots of cricket, table tennis, tennis.

Amelia Conway-Jones

My name is Amelia Conway-Jones (nee jones). I went to Highnam primary school from 1989-1996. My mum passed on the June Village Link to me, suggesting that I get in touch about what I've been doing since leaving the school. I'm living in Ealing Common in West London and am a professional violinist. I'm a member of Orchestra of the Swan, a chamber orchestra based in Stratford-Upon-Avon. We do about 40 concerts a year and in the rest of my time I freelance with other orchestras such as the Philharmonia, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of St Martin-in-the-fields and Bournemouth symphony Orchestra. I also teach the violin and grade 5 theory.
During my time at the school the teachers were all very supportive of my violin playing and I will always appreciate that. I loved my time at Highnam and love going back to the village to visit my parents, who still live there.
