District Cross Country Success at Newent

Yesterday 5 pupils took part in the second district cross country race at Newent School. This was the final opportunity for Highnam pupils to book their place representing the Forest of Dean in the County Cross Country race at St. Edwards Junior School in Cheltenham.

On a dry, but cold afternoon the girls started proceeding off.  About 30 girls were taking part and the race was about 1700m including a few steep banks. I banged my thumb which was already hurting quite early on in the race, but kept going with the support of Abi who shouted "you can do it" as we were racing. That motivation helped me to finish in 6th place and therefore I will be racing in the County Finals. I appreciated the support of my team mates and it definitely helped me.

Kelsey finished in 8th place and Abi 9th so they will need to wait to see whether they are in the final team.

Next the boys' race started, unfortunately Haydn was unwell and unable to compete which meant it was up to Ed and Cameron. Well done to Ed who finished in 14th place, a great result by a pupil in Year 4. Cameron finished 10th and again will have to wait and see whether he will be selected. We look forward to hearing the final results from Mr. Mills at Newent School. We were pleased with our effort and would like to thank Mrs. Townsend for taking us to the event.

Well done to Kelsey - she has also qualified to represent the Forest of Dean
