2nd Place in the Cotswold Athletics Competition
The annual Cotswold Athletics Festival took place at the Prince of Wales stadium in Cheltenham on Saturday, 18th June. Once again the weather was overcast and not the best conditions for running. The festival started this year with the long distance races. Adam ran superbly to win the 1,000m race, with Tom in second place.
After that the sprints took place. Adam in Year 5 and Abigail in Year 4 both won their respective races. Next the throwing and long jumps events took place. Former Highnam pupils helped Mr Dean run the throwing event. Both boys and girls events saw Highnam finish in 4th and 5th places. A special mention to Becky who came third in the long jump final.
Finally we were back to the track for the relays. The Year 3 boys and girls came second in their beanbag relays, the Year 5 Boys won their 4 x 100m baton relay and the Year 6 girls and boys both came second in their relays.
After an exciting morning, the festival came to an end. Highnam finished 2nd, behind the winners Tewkesbury C of E Primary School.
